FAQ
Find answers to common questions about using Eventual.
Getting Started
Events can be added in two ways:
- Tap the + button.
- Tap and hold the desired date on the calendar view (upper screen) and choose "New event" from the pop-up menu.
To add a new reminder, tap and hold the + button.
Using Stencils
Stencils are templated events perfect for items that share similar details (like title, location, and duration) but do not happen on a consistent schedule. Examples include recurring doctor appointments, sports practices, or after-school activities. Stencils keep all the details pre-saved so you can effortlessly recreate the event in seconds without starting from scratch.
Tap and hold an event in your list that you want to use as a template, then tap "Create Stencil."
Tap and hold a date on the calendar, choose "New event from Stencil" in the pop-up, and select the Stencil you wish to apply. This opens a New Event window with pre-filled details that you can edit if needed before saving.
Tap the menu icon (top-right corner) and choose "Manage Stencils." Inside the list, tap the menu icon to adjust sorting or manage your Stencil categories.
Customization & Settings
- Appearance: Choose if Eventual appears in light mode, dark mode, or matches your system's setting.
- Show 'No events' indicator: If enabled, days without scheduled events or timed reminders will show a "No events" callout.
- Default event duration: Sets the default length of new events you create.
- Accent Color: Customizes the color of the user interface elements on the main screen.
- Default calendar: Choose which calendar is pre-filled for new events. "Default (System)" uses your iOS settings; "Last used" copies the calendar from your previous event.

- Show completed reminders: Toggle this to hide or show completed reminders on your calendar view.
- Scroll to day on event creation: Automatically scrolls the list to the day of your new event so you can verify it was added correctly.
- Calendar Appearance: Customize the display, including font size, font color, and event color indicators.
Default reminder timing must be set in your iOS system settings. Tap the link in Eventual's settings to open iOS Calendar settings, scroll to "Default Alert Times," and set your preference. Note: You can still customize alerts individually when creating specific events.
Widgets
Eventual offers small, medium, and large widgets that mirror the calendars and reminders enabled in the app.
- Interactive Calendar: On medium and large widgets, you can tap a day to see the schedule without opening the app. Use the arrows to view future or past months.
- Return to Today: Tap the month name to return to the current day. The widget also resets to the current day after two minutes of inactivity.
- Tap and hold the widget on your home screen and select "Edit Widget".
- Displayed Events: Choose to show all events, only timed events, or "Summary All Day" (which groups all-day events into a simple count).
- Reminders: Show all reminders or only those with a specific time attached.
- Current Day's Events: Choose to persistently show all events, dim completed events, or hide completed events entirely.
- Completed Reminders: Choose to show or hide reminders you have checked off.
